On Tuesday, Cumberland's baseball team played their ninth game of the season but it was their first game day where they only played a single game rather than a double header. Sophomore second baseman Vaughn Watson led off the game with a hit and then scored two batters later. It was that kind of a day for the Dukes. The first three hitters in the line up contributed for most of the runs as the Dukes cruised to a 12-2 victory over neighbor Atlantic Cape Community College . Watson, center fielder Tim Gallagher, and short stop Anthony Lopez combined to hit 6 for 9 with 6 runs scored and 7 runs batted in. Watson also stole a pair of bases. On the hill, sophomore Casey Carothers picked up the win, tossing four scoreless innings on three hits and striking out three. The Dukes have now won 8 straight games after dropping the first game of their home opening double header. Cumberland will resume play this weekend, when they host three consecutive double headers on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
