The Cumberland County College baseball team will now head to Myrtle Beach, SC for their Spring Break trip, and they will do so on a six game winning. With a sweep in an afternoon doubleheader, the Dukes improved to 7-1 on the season.
The Dukes won Game 1 by a score of 11-3. Anthony Lopez went 3 for 4, with a triple and a home run that brought in all 3 of RBIs. Sophomore Catcher Jose Martinez hit 2 for 2 with 4 big RBIs and Tim Gallagher and Tyler Mixon both added two hits apiece. Sophomore ace Cody Stashak picked up his third win of the season (3-0), tossing four innings, allowing 0 runs ons 3 hits, and striking out 8.
In Game 2, Sophomore Josh O'Neill picked up the win after pitching four strong innings. He gave up 2 runs (0 ER) on 3 hits. Gallagher and Mixon added 2 more hits each, and Freshman Arturo Ocasio hit 2 for 4 with a double. Cumberland won by a final score of 9-3.
Starting on Monday, the Dukes will take part in The Ripikin Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. There they will play seven games in five days against five other junior college teams. Cumberland will then return home for a doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland on Wednesday March 19th. The first pitch will be thrown at 1pm.
