There was one common factor from start to finish in the Dukes 7-1 win over Camden County College, Josh O'Neill. The sophomore pitcher tossed a complete game as Cumberland notched their twentieth win of the season. O'Neill (5-1) faced just thirty-two batters in nine innings of work, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five.
The starting pitcher received outstanding defensive support and timely, big hits over the course of the game. Sophomores Anthony Lopez and Jordan Glover each launched a home run at key points in the game. Lopez finished two-for-five with two runs scored and an RBI on his solo shot, while Glover hit one-for-three with two RBIs and one run scored.
Fellow sophomore Cody Stashak had a huge RBI triple in the second inning to start the scoring for Cumberland and showed off his arm from the outfield as well. With the visiting Cougars threatening in a bases loaded, one out situation, Stashak caught a routine flyball and fired a missle that landed right in the glove of catcher Jose Martinez who applied the tag to end the inning.
With that impressive Region 19 win, the Dukes improved to 20-5 on the season. Cumberland heads to Brookdale Community College on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 1PM.
