Dukes Edge ASA College in Home Opener

The Dukes stepped on their home field for the first time this season, making the most of it in a 7-4 win over ASA College.  Freshman hurler Justin Smith (2-0) picked up the win, going 5 and 2/3 innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and striking out seven Avenger batters.  Sophomore Justin Geri pitched 2 and a 1/3 in relief and southpaw Dalton Mayberry picked up the save (1), striking out two in just one inning of work.

At the plate, the Dukes scored seven runs on ten hits and two errors.  Arturo Ocasio hit 1 for 2 including two walks and two runs scored.  Joe Zanghi came up with one of the Dukes RBIs on a double and Dukes shortstop Raul Perez-Duran put together two hits, an RBI and a run scored.  Omar Prieto, Tyler Mixon, and Jake Carr each added a hit and a run scored for Cumberland.

The Dukes will be back at it on Thursday when they take on a familiar foe with a new name, Rowan College at Gloucester County (formerly Gloucester County College).  The last time these teams met were in last year's Region 19 Championship Game.  The first pitch will be thrown at 3:00PM.
