Baseball Cruises on the Road at Cecil College

The Cumberland bats sprung for 12 runs on 13 hits as they cruised past Cecil College 12-3 Friday.  The first five hitters in the lineup accounted for nine runs and eleven total RBIs for the Dukes.

Freshman Catcher Mitch Walker went an impressive 5 for 6, including a solo homerun.  Sophomore John Banes drove in a game-high five runs, going 2 for 4 at the plate.  Dan Healey connected on a double that drove in three baserunners and Marco Rios and John Schoelkopf combined for five runs scored at the top of the order.

It was a group effort on the hill.  Cumberland ace Will Latcham started off the afternoon, pitching four shutout innings and striking out 9 Cecil batters over that span.  Justin Smith threw one inning in his first action of the 2016 season, and Matt Colon and Calvin Clark each threw a pair of innings in the win. The pitching staff combined for 15 total strikeouts, allowing 0 earned runs for the game.

Now the Dukes will head south to Myrtle Beach, SC where they will play nine games over a six day stretch as part of the Ripkin Experience.   The trip consists of a challenging schedule, including four DII teams and one DI opponent.
