The Dukes kept rolling Tuesday afternoon, as they dispatched NJCAA Division I ASA College by a score of 10-5. The victory pushed the Dukes overall record to 32-3 and an extended their unprecedented streak to 24 consecutive wins.
The Dukes started the scoring early jumping out to a 5-0 lead, recording one in the first and piling up four runs in the second frame. Mitch Walker connected on one of his two doubles during the second inning rally. Walker finished 2 for 6 with a game high 3 RBIs.
Visiting ASA College battled back adding two runs in the fouth before knotting the game at 5 with a three-run sixth inning. The momentum tilting the Avengers way did not last long. Cumberland responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth frame. During that span, sophomore Marco Rios connected on a double that plated a run.
Fellow sophomores Chris Salvey and Tovine Potts scored two runs apiece. Potts showed his patience at the plate, working four walks in six plate appearances. Freshman Ivan Solis added two hits in a 2 for 4 performance with a double, scoring once and drving in a run.
Sophomore Southpaw Joe Bobiak battled on the mound as the starter for the Dukes, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings. Misael Castillo picked up the win in relief, tossing three innings. Castillo allowed one run on four hits and added four strikeouts.
After picking up a good non-conference win against a NJCAA Division I opponent, Cumberland will get back to conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Atlantic Cape Community College to complete a three-game set with the Buccaneers.
