The nation's top team used four long balls to dispatch of Lehigh Carbon, advancing in the Region 19 Postseason Tournament by a score of 12-4. The victory gave the Dukes a 2-0 series win over the Cougars and a spot in the Final Four portion of the tournament.
The Dukes' sophomore four-hole hitter, John Banes, launched two of the four homeruns on the afternoon. Banes finished the afternoon hitting 4 for 5, scoring three runs and driving in four runs. The top two spots on the lineup, in Rios and Potts, combined for five hits and five runs scored. Potts finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Fellow sophomores Chris Salvey and Mitch Walker joined in on the long-ball parade, each launching balls over the wall. Walker's came in the eighth innning and was a three-run shot. Salvey hit a solo bomb, marking his 15th homer of the season, which leads all hitters in NJCAA Division III.
Sophomore starter, Dan Goggin (9-1) picked up the win on the hill, tossing five innings in the victory. Goggin allowed three runs on six hits and four walks, striking out four Cougar batters. Greg Avis pitched three innings in relief.
The Dukes (49-5), now join RCGC and Northampton in the Final Four of the Region 19 Tournament. The remaining spot will be filled with the winner of the Camden/Brookdale series.
