Three Dukes were named All-Americans Tuesday afternoon when the NJCAA released the Division III Baseball All-American selections. Sophomore Catcher, Mitch Walker was named to the First-Team, while sophomore First Baseman Chris Salvey and Freshman Pitcher Jarrett Quinn both earned Second-Team honors.
Walker earns his first-team selection on the heels of a remarkable season in which he hit .435 for the year while driving in 78 runs and crossing the plate 74 times. His 28 doubles and 39 extra-base-hits were second best in the country. Walker will be attending North Carolina Central on an NCAA Division I scholarship next year.
The two second-team selections also had sensational seasons for the Dukes in 2017. Salvey hit .407 on the year and finished the season leading the NJCAA in both Home Runs (18) and Runs-Batted-In (82). His 39 extra-base-hits tied him with Walker for second most in the nation.
While Walker and Salvey impressed at the plate, Jarrett Quinn, another second-team selection, dazzled everyone with his pitching ability on the hill. Just a freshman, Quinn posted a spotless 12-0 record for Cumberland in thirteen total starts. He finished the season with an ERA of 1.76, 95 total strikeouts, and seven complete games.
