Freshman guard Seth Hackett got the nod in the starting lineup tonight, and he did not disappoint. Hackett scored 13 points on five of seven shooting from the field, none more important than the game-winner. With time winding down and the game knotted at 63, Hackett hauled in a pass from Terron Mitchell underneath the Dukes basket, and calmly kissed it off the glass as time expired.
Melvin Allen added 13 points of his own and made it another double-double with 10 rebounds on the night. Despite struggling from the floor, freshman Markevis Johnson came up with a big-time scooping layup to pull the Dukes within one with just over a minute to play.
With that heart-pumping victory, the Dukes improved to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the Garden State Athletic Conference. Cumberland will look to get some revenge on Saturday at Passaic County Community College from a two-point loss to the Panthers back on November 15th.
