Visiting Valley Forge Military College got the best of the Dukes Tuesday night, handing Cumberland a 92-73 loss in the team's season opener.
Trailing by fourteen at the break and by seventeen at the ten minute mark, a 15-5 from the Dukes cut the Valley Forge lead to eight with just under six minutes to play. The visiting Trojans responded with a run of their to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Khaliq Ford led all scores with 23 points. Freshman Shaheed Black added 18 points and Markevis Johnson tallied 16. Valley Forge's Carnell McGirt scored a team-high 18 points, going a remarkable 12 for 12 from the charity stripe.
Falling to 0-1 on the season, the Dukes will look to rebound against conference foe RCGC on Thursday night at 7pm.
