From the opening kick-off, the Dukes defense appeared sluggish as visiting Bergen Community College took advantage, scoring three first half goals. Cumberland's effort picked up in the second half, but could not overcome the early deficit.
An AJ Gazzara goal cut the Bergen lead to 3-1, but the Bulldogs responded by quickly adding two goals of their own to keep the distance between the two sides. After a Freddie Beck missed penalty kick opportunity, Beck found the back of the net moments later leading to the eventual 5-2 final score.
The loss came as a shock to Dukes and the crowd on hand just two days after an extremely impressive 4-0 win at home over Brookdale Community College on Thursday. Dropping to 8-3 overall, Cumberland will be back in action at home on Tuesday against Globe Institute of Technology.
