After going three years without an appearance in the postseason, first year head coach Jody Roberts gave the Dukes their first playoff win since 2011 in his first NJCAA Region 19 Tournament game with the program. Back in 2011, Cumberland won a first-round game over Manor College by a score of 1-0 before falling to #1 seeded Brookdale Community College.
Sophomore captain AJ Gazzara started and finished the scoring, recording the first and third goals for host Cumberland. Between the Gazzara goals came a Freddie Beck score on a beautiful shot and Harrisburg converted on an opportunity just before the end of the first half. Gazzara's second goal, his sixteenth on the year, provided a two-goal lead midway through the second half leading to the 3-1 final score.
With the win, the Dukes advance to play #1 seeded Camden County College on Wednesday October 29th at 2:30PM. Not only will the Cougars host the Dukes, they will be looking for revenge as well. Cumberland handed Camden their only loss of the season in a 3-1 affair at home back in September.
