After a disappointing 2014 campaign, the Dukes Softball Team is ready to charge into the 2015 season. The team will be led by the lone returning players from last year, sophomores Kodi Pollock (Cumberland Regional) at shortstop and Nicole Chillari (Bridgeton) at catcher.
The Dukes will fill out the roster with what Coach Les Olson calls a very talented recruiting class of freshman. At the head of the class are South Jersey Coaches Association 2014 1st Team All South Jersey High School selections, pitcher Rosie LaGrotta (Paul VI), 1st baseman Lauren Tobolski (Millville), 2nd baseman Casey Kisielewski (Pennsville) and outfielder Gabby Castellini (Wildwood Catholic). Joining those four will be a 2013 1st Team All South Jersey Selection in outfielder Danielle Cornman (Pennsville) along with pitcher Marisa Holt (Ocean City), Carly DiDonna (Pennsville), Dina Brown (Millville), Courtney Weems (Millville), Alyssa Anderson (Cumberland Regional) and Makinzi Henkle (Millville).
Coach Olson feels this group can make some noise in both the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region 19 Division III play this year. After a season opening home doubleheader against a Division II County College of Morris on February 28th, the team heads out on March 5th for a 7 day, 11 game, softball-filled trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Upon returning, the Dukes will play a doubleheader at the Diamond Nation complex in Flemington, NJ against Raritan Valley Community College on March 13th, followed by a quick trip to Southern Maryland for a doubleheader against Ann Arundel Community College on March 15th. After starting with those 17 games, the Dukes will delve into Region 19 play on March 21st with a home doubleheader against Bergen Community College. Region 19 play will be highlighted by road doubleheaders at perrenial powers Rowan College of Gloucester County on April 2nd and at Brookdale Community College on April 11th. The Dukes 47 game regular season schedule concludes with a doubleheader at DII Burlington County College on Monday, April 20th.
