Softball Sweeps Camden CC, Castellini Rips 100th Hit

The Cumberland Softball Program kept rolling on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Camden County College.  The Dukes tallied an 11-0 final score in each game.

In Game 1, the Dukes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead behind a 2 RBI double from Gabrielle Castellini and a two-run homerun from freshman Elizabeth Carpani.  Carpani added two more RBIs one inning later, bringing in Carly DiDonna and Casey Kisielewski.

DiDonna finished the afternoon 4 of 6 at the plate, scoring six runs and driving in three.  Castellini added three hits on the afternoon, with her last hit of the day brining the most excitement.  Castellini launched a solo homerun in Game 2 to put her at 100 total hits for her Cumberland career.

In the circle, Rosalie LaGrotta and Liz Carpanie each recorded shutouts.  LaGrotta, the reigning NJCAA DIII Pitcher of the Week, pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four Cougars.  Carpani allowed one hit and one walk over five innings while striking out three.

The Dukes have now won 14 out of their last 15 games and will welcome in a nationally ranked (#5) Brookdale Community College team for a doubleheader this Saturday.
