With one game left in the season, the Cumberland County College Lady Dukes inched one step closer to clinching a playoff berth after handling the Camden County College Cougars, 77-47.
Lynn Brown not only led the CCC offense in scoring with 22 points on 8 of 13 shooting, she was also the catalyst for an aggressive defense that stifled the Lady Cougars right from tip-off. Kiarah Brathwaite and Sara Mazzeo were major contributors in this game. In the second quarter the duo began raining threes on the visiting Cougars, pouring in 11 shots from beyond the arc for a total of 33 points for the contest.
CCC finished the first quarter with a 17-8 lead. Any hopes the Lady Cougars had at mounting a comeback were dashed swiftly, when Brathwaite drained back-to-back-to-back 3's beginning with 8:26 left in the second. Mazzeo capped an impressive 19-6 run with a smooth 3 pointer of her own.
The second half was more of the same, as the Lady Dukes continued to pile on the points with the help of SyDonnie Dawkins, who rounded out the double figure scorers by tallying 12 points.
This was a much needed win for CCC, who's next game is at home on February 21st, a make-up game against Montgomery County Community College, which was postponed from an earlier date due to inclement weather. In regards to post-season implications; if they win, they're in.
