This fall, former Cumberland pitchers Will Latcham (2016) and Joe Zanghi (2015) will be amongst baseball's brightest stars in the famed, Arizona Fall League. Latcham will be a part of the Surprise Saguaros, a roster comprised of the top prospects from the Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals (Latcham's organization), Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays. As a member of the New York Mets organization, Zanghi will join the Scottsdale Scorpions who are a mix of the Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Francisco Giants.
Latcham had a whirlwind of a 2018 that started with the Palm Beach Cardinals in High-Single A. He would then be promoted to Double-A Springfield, before ending at Triple-A Memphis where he would win the Pacific Coast League Championship and the overall Triple-A Baseball Championship. Now he finds himself among baseball youngest stars in the Arizona Fall League. Joe Zanghi had a similar path starting out in High-A with the Port St. Lucie Mets. He soon would be promoted to the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies where he would spend the majority of 2018. Joe was promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, but would bounce back and forth before ultimately settling in Binghamton. Legendary MLB Pitcher, Frank Viola, was Zanghi's manager at Binghamton and had this to say about Joe via the New Haven Register. "Great work ethic, terrific poise on the mound." Viola added, "He is moving up the ladder and doing a really nice job. He's aggressive, goes after hitters, gets ahead of the count and attacks the zone."
