In a tough test in the season opener, the Dukes squandered a ten-point lead as Valley Forge seized control of the game in the second half, leading to a Cumberland defeat, 80-69. The Trojans came out strong in the second-half trailing the Dukes by four at the break.
The Dukes found themsevles down nine points with 15:11. Before pulling away down the stretch, Valley Forge's lead was whittled down to two following a three-point basket from DeAndre Solomon and a break away lay up from freshman Khaliq Ford.
In the losing effort, sophomore captain Ezekiel Shockley led the Dukes in scoring with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field. Solomon tallied all nine of his point from beyond the arc and Ford chipped in with a eight point off of the bench.
Cumberland will have a chance to even their season record at 1-1 with another out-of-conference game at Delaware Technicial and Community College-Stanton Campus next Wednesday night.
