The overall team speed of the Cumberland County College Men's Basketball team was the key factor in the Dukes earning their sixth straight victory. Led by sophomore guards Kevin Clark and Taylor Clarke, the Dukes ran past the Sussex County Community College Skylanders for a 77-59 victory this past Saturday.
Taylor Clarke led all scorers with 28 points as he helped jumpstart the Dukes to an early 22-8 lead in the first half. Danny Williams continues to impress as he entered the game to help extend the lead to twenty late in the half when Cumberland took a 42-22 lead. Williams would finish with 15 points on 6-9 shooting and 3 blocks. Sussex would not go quietly as they charged their way back within 9 with an 11-0 to finish the half to bring the score to 42-33 at intermission.
Team Captain, Kevin Clark, would ensure the Dukes would return to form in the 2nd half. Clark contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists on the afternoon to solidify the Cumberland effort in the second half as they were able to keep the Skylanders at bay with a 13-point lead midway through the half. Supporting the cause would be freshmen forwards, Phil Cisrow (9 points, 13 rebounds) and Amari Rex (6 points, 11 rebounds) as they controlled the paint area for much of the day. Cumberland totaled 8 blocks and 9 steals on the evening. The Dukes would maintain that pace throughout the remainder of the contest leading to a 77-59 victory.
