After going on an exciting 8-game winning streak, the Cumberland County College Men's Basketball team has gone 3-3 in their last six, losing their most recent game by falling to Rowan-Gloucester on Tuesday night.  Currently, the team sits at 11-6 with 9 games remaining in the 2018-2019 season.  In those 9 games, the Dukes will face Middlesex County (Saturday, January 26) who is currently in 2nd place in Region XIX with an overall record of 16-3 and the 3rd place Northampton Community College Spartans who hold a 13-5 overall record and were 2018 Region XIX Final Four participants.

If the season were to end today, based on standings alone, Cumberland would host a 1st round playoff game, but would then have to travel for the 2nd round should they advance.  It is a daunting task as the Region has been as competitive as it has been in years with nearly every team in the hunt up until this point of the year.  Despite the recent slide, Cumberland is encouraged that they will regroup and find their stride once again, this time at the most important time of the year.

Leading the charge this year has been the trio of Taylor Clarke, Kevin Clark, and Phil Cisrow.  Clarke is the team's leading scorer averaging 21.8 points per game and has jumpstarted the team all year with a series of thunderous dunks and highlight-reel lay ins.  Kevin Clark, a sophomore returnee from last year's record-setting 2017-2018 team, has been the team's best all-around player.  Clark averages 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, and provides vocal leadership for the Dukes.  Freshman forward Phil Cisrow currently averages 14 points and 9 rebounds, as he has come on as of late as he has averaged a double-double in recent games including a monstrous 31 point, 17 rebound game at Camden County on January 15.

Andre Robinson, a newcomer to the team, has jumped right in and contributed immediately for the Dukes.  In just 3 appearances thus far, Robinson is averaging 15 points on 50% shooting, 9 rebounds, and 1 block.  Freshman guard Danny Williams has contributed in some of the team's key moments this season and provides the Dukes with a perimeter threat that keeps opponents honest.  Williams averages just under 11 points per game and is shooting 46% from three point range.  Michael Burden, Amari Rex, and Kinnis Somerville have provided strong minutes for the Dukes with Burden providing strength on the defensive end while taking on ball-handling duties on the offensive end.

Cumberland hosts Middlesex County for a crucial Region XIX matchup, Saturday, January 26.  Tip off will be 2 PM.
