Softball Out-duels Titans on Sophomore Day

On a day the two Cumberland sophomores Kodi Pollock and Nicole Chillari were honored prior to the first game, the Dukes took care of business with wins of 4-2 and 12-8 over the County College of Morris.  The Dukes improved to 32-7 on the season and pushed their current win-streak to 15 games.

In Game 1, Pollock hit 2 for 2 with two runs scored and Rosalie LaGrotta picked up her 21st win of the season, going the distance and striking out five Titan batters.  LaGrotta also added two hits and an RBI at the plate.

The second game showcased Cumberland's power with three Dukes launching the ball over the fence.  Kodi Pollock started the bottom of the first off with a solo shot, before Gabrielle Castellini belted her fifth homerun of the year an inning later.  Danielle Cornman joined in on the action with a three-run blast during a four-run fifth inning to put some distance between the two teams.

Castellini finished 2 for 3 with four runs score and three RBIs and Cornman hit 3 for 4, scoring three times and driving in four runs in the second game. Freshman pitcher from Ocean City, Marisa Holt (9-1), picked up the win pitching five innings and striking out two.  The Dukes will wrap up their regular-season Monday afternoon with a doubleheader at Burlington County College.
