Dukes Outlast Camden, Earn Spot in Region XIX Title Game

Now it's official. The Cumberland County College Women's Basketball Team will have another shot at capturing the Region XIX Title.  After falling in the Region Championship just a year ago, a 71-62 win against Camden put the Dukes back in the final game.

Cumberland took a 38-31 lead into the half, but the opposing Cougars quickly erased that deficit and at one point in the game, Cumberland trailed by as many as eight in the second half.  Sophomore Maryah Coleman sunk a pair of free throws to knot the game at 59 with 5:11 remaining.  After a turnover created by Jodi Kelley, freshman Artaeja Loatman took the ball to the hole for a basket and the foul, giving the Dukes a three point lead. A pair of missed free throws by Camden's Kamari Talley, followed by a Loatman twisting layup put the Dukes ahead 64-59.  From there, the Dukes knocked down the necessary free throws to seal the deal.

Loatman led the way with an impressive performance, recording 30 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Maryah Coleman grabbed 10 big rebounds, and Sophomore Kyra Lunsford added 15 points and 4 assists.  Lunsford is the lone Duke that took part in last season's Region XIX Title Game, where Cumberland fell to Ocean County College.

Now, Head Coach James Boney and company will have a shot at giving Cumberland their first Region XIX Championship in Women's Basketball.  The Dukes will face a familiar foe in Brookdale Community College, who got past Middlesex County College 66-59 in their Semi-Final matchup. Brookdale has won both matchups between the two teams this season.  The game will take place on Saturday March 1st at 7:30pm and will be played on the Jersey Blues home court at Brookdale Community College. The Championship Game will be streamed live on Brookdale TV.  You can follow the Dukes on Saturday at Brookdale TV Live Stream and Video Library
