The Cumberland County Women's Basketball team win two straight on the road and remain undefeated to increase their record to 6-0. Jovan Childers led the way in the 83-68 win against Ocean County on Thursday and the 83-44 win against Bergen with 53 points, 9 assist, and 14 rebounds in the two days.
In Thursday's game against Ocean, the Dukes came out flat and went down 19-10 early, but Childers' four point play began their run and gave them a five point lead at the half. At the start of the half, the dukes went on a quick run to increase the lead by more than 10 and kept the lead for a majority of the half. Ocean brought it down to as many as three, but a couple of aggressive moves to the basket by Childers and Lopez brought the lead back up to 15. In the winning effort, Sahara Lopez scored 22 points and Caroline Santiago had her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards.
In today's game, the Dukes went on a 7-0 run to start the game and Bergen never came within 10 points. Tamyra Smith recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards, and was a pest on defense with 6 steals. Sahara Lopez also recorded her second double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Santiago scored 11 points while Jasmine Miro scored 9 points and had 6 steals in today's win.
The Dukes are on the road again to face Mercer County College and Delaware Technical and Community College-Stanton at the Mixer at Mercer on November 29-30. Tip off Friday is at 2:00pm and Saturday at 12:00pm.
