2014 Season Preview: Women's Soccer

The last time Head Coach Don Palmucci and the Dukes Women's Soccer Program walked off the soccer field, most of the heads were hanging low on the heels of a disappointing season.  This year is set to be much different, as the coaching staff expects the program to make a giant leap from just a year ago.

Despite only one returning starter from the 2013 team, there is no tempering of expectations. Palmucci has already set the bar early in practice and believes that his girls can climb their way into the Region 19 Playoffs.

The Dukes will open up on Thursday August 28th at home, hosting Frederick Community College at 4PM.  When the Dukes take the field, the only familiar face from 2013, minus the coaching staff, will be Third-Team All-Region 19 forward Jasmine Miro.  Miro will be receiving plenty of help as the coaching staff brought in a much-improved recruiting class.

Freshman Rhesa Anderson (Delsea) will join Miro up top.  Together, the two look to give opposing defenses fits trying to account for both impact forwards.  Fellow incoming freshmen Brianna Harper (Buena), Nicole Gaboda (Buena), Stephanie Alvarez (Vineland), and Danielle Cowgill (Clayton) will look to make their imprint on the team as starters on the pitch.

In the incoming student-athletes also include Salem Community College transfers Brianna Slaughter and Kawanee Chapman who come to Cumberland after Salem's program was eliminated.  Champman and Slaughter will help sure up the defense with Cowgill anchoring the backline as the team's projected goalkeeper.

You can see the new-look 2014 Dukes take the field on August 28th at 4PM.  The Dukes will open up against two Maryland junior colleges before diving into Region 19 play on September 6th at Northampton Community College (Bethlehem, PA).  Check out the full 2014 Schedule here.

A look at the Men's Soccer and Cross Country programs and their upcoming season will be posted in the coming weeks.  Men's Soccer will open up their season on September 2nd at Delaware County Community College and Cross Country will have their first race on September 6th.
