On a perfect fall afternoon in Conshohocken, PA, the RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes Women's Soccer team arrived with confidence. After falling just short of a victory a few days ago at CCBC-Catonsville, there was a sense that they were on the rise. Thursday afternoon illustrated just that in their matchup against the Montgomery County CC Mustangs.
Led by Kendra Stipes and Hailey Mehaffey, Cumberland capitalized on their offensive opportunities, starting with Stipes drilling a shot from distance "bardown" to give the Dukes the 1-0 lead. Montgomery County had chances of their own, but goalkeeper Julissa Samano answered the bell time and time again. Strong defense from Rebecca Cox and Alexandria Patitucci, bolster the offense facilitated by midfielder Mikayla Mathias. Stipes and Mehaffey would tally a goal each in the second half as the Dukes would tighten their defense up towards the back end of the second half. That defense would hold for the Dukes first victory in 2019, a 3-0 shutout of the Mustangs.
Cumberland is back in action Saturday as they host Union County. Kickoff scheduled for 12 PM.
