Brag earns All-American, Dukes perform well at Nationals
JAMESTOWN, NY - The RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes Golf Team put in a strong showing that culminated in Ashley Brag earning All-American status as she placed 15th at the NJCAA National Tournament held in Lake Chautauqua, NY from June 3-6.
Mateo Medina, Perry Stanger, and Carson Ippolito were the Men's qualifiers for the Dukes as all three golfers shined at various moments during the 4-round tournament, but could not put all facets together. Medina scored a personal tournament high of 77 (+2) in round 2 of the event, but faced an extremely difficult field that saw multiple individuals scored below-par with the lowest score being -10. Medina, a 2024 All-American, finished 25th in the 85 individual field. Despite a jittery start, Stanger fired an +8 in his 3rd round, his personal best on the day to leapfrog the standings in a big way. He would finish 63 overall. Ippolito battled his way through his first national tournament. He would finish 69th overall.
Brag was the star as she reached as high as 12th place after 2 rounds. The first-year golfer navigated the tough Chautauqua GC hills maintaining pace throughout each round before landing in 15th place despite a difficult 17 and 18th hole in the final round. She is the first ever women's golfer in program history and now adds the first Women's Golf All-American in program history.
