Softball: 2026 in review
VINELAND - After not being active for the 2025 season, Dukes Softball came back in 2026 and found themselves right in the mix of a playoff race midway through the season. Despite falling short of an expectation that suddenly arose, the Dukes announced their return as a potential contender for the Region 19 crown in the coming years.
The season would not have been possible without the position conversions of Mimi Acevedo, Cayla Sbrana, and Sky Oyola. Acevedo who played leftfield for the Dukes in 2024, converted to the Dukes Game 1 pitcher while also splitting time at second base and catcher. Sbrana, an infielder, took on the role as Game 2 starter for the Dukes while being the primary starter at second base. Oyola, who joined the Dukes as a utility infielder/outfielder, became the Dukes primary catcher.
Kylie Tomlin and Kylie Gonzalez served as the team's leaders on the offensive side with Tomlin and Gonzalez leading the team in all offensive categories. Both received All-Region and All-GSAC votes with Tomlin earning 2nd Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-GSAC honors. Mary Del Re served as the team's starting centerfielder and was arguably one of the top defensive outfielders in Region XIX.
The group was rounded out by first year players Ava Rodriguez, A'Marie Calderon, Monica Bishop-Jarmon, and Gabby De La Rosa. Rodriguez and Calderon each had moments providing the Dukes with a much needed offensive jolt with Rodriguez providing big time RBIs during their 3-game winning streak early in the season.
With an expected incoming class that includes highly touted prospects, look for the Dukes to return to their standard form in 2027.
