With a 7-5 win over Herkimer County Community College, the Dukes earned a rematch with Tyler Junior College in the NJCAA Division III World Series Championship Game.
After dropping behind three runs in the second inning, the Dukes fought back to tie up the game in the bottom of the third. Anthony Lopez launched a double to deep center field to score Arturo Ocasio and Tim Gallagher. Lopez, who finished 1 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored, crossed the plate on a passed ball later that inning.
Cumberland took the lead on a balk that plated Cody Stashak in the fourth frame. In the fifth, the Dukes scored two more runs on RBI singles from Jordan Glover and Jose Martinez. After a sacrifice fly from Herkimer, Ocasio scored in the sixth on a throwing error. Martinez finished 2 for 4 with that lone RBI.
Right hander Chris Seibert pitched 5 and 1/3 third of an inning in relief allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three. The Dukes will now get their shot at revenge and more importantly a shot at pushing the World Series to a decisive game. Cumberland must win tomorrow night to have a shot at the title on Thursday. Tyler and Cumberland will square off on Wednesday at 7PM (CDT) with an if necessary game on Thursday.
