Kory Jenkins tames the Lions, defeats Raritan Valley 14-2
Kory Jenkins drove in eight runs on four hits to lead RCSJ-Cumberland Baseball past Raritan Valley CC 14-2 on Wednesday at Diamond Nation. Jenkins hit a home run to center field in the fourth scoring three, singled in the second scoring two, singled in the seventh scoring two, and singled in the sixth scoring one.
The Dukes jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Tyler Schoppe homered to left field, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Jenkins singled, scoring two runs.
Jenkins homered to center field, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth for the RCSJ-Cumberland.
Ryan Beebe began the game for the Dukes. The pitcher gave up eight hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Ray Nault started on the bump for Raritan Valley CC. The pitcher gave up three hits and five runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking three. Lucas D'Agostino and Tyler Histing each came on in relief for RCSJ-Cumberland and shutdown Raritan Valley CC.
The Dukes collected 10 hits in the game. Christian Willis collected two hits for RCSJ-Cumberland in four at bats. Chase Montgomery paced RCSJ-Cumberland with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Zach Braig and Cole Shover each stole multiple bases for the Dukes. RCSJ-Cumberland ran wild on the base paths, tallying eight stolen bases for the game. RCSJ-Cumberland turned one double play in the game.
Nick Sellitti and Anthony DeNora were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Raritan Valley CC. Benjamin Hernandez collected two hits for Raritan Valley CC in four at bats.
