Jenkins power surge not enough against RCSJ-Gloucester
VINELAND - RCSJ-Cumberland were the first to get on the board in the first when LaGuarina hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Cole Shover as a classic Cumberland-Gloucester battle ensued. The Roadrunners would tie the game at one in the bottom of the first on a leadoff home run.
After the Roadrunners took a 3-1 lead, Rob LaGuarina singled to center field scoring tie the game at three in the top of the fifth as Zach Braig and Cole Shover scampered home. Gloucester would grab two runs right back in the bottom of the 5th where the score would stay 5-3 for the next few innings. Kory Jenkins then hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the eighth to bring the Dukes within 1. Gloucester would then overrun the Dukes bullpen to take a 13-4 lead into the final frame.
Lucas D'Agostino took the hard-luck loss for the Dukes as he went 5.1 nnings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.
Shover and Jenkins were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Dukes while hitting back-to-back. LaGuarina provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led RCSJ-Cumberlandwith three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.
