Braig perfect, Jenkins homers in 19-2 victory over Salem
VINELAND - Zach Braig drove in 3 runs and Kory Jenkins drove in four runs on three hits to lead RCSJ-Cumberland past the Salem Mighty Oaks 19-2 on Friday. Jenkins hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the seventh inning, scoring two.
The Dukes jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Angel Rodriguez doubled, scoring two runs, and Braig singled, scoring one run. They added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning on three hits. Jenkins homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Rodriguez singled, scoring two runs. Cumberland then put the game away for good after they scored nine runs on eight hits in the top of the seventh inning. Cole Shover singled, scoring one run, Jenkins doubled, scoring two runs, Tyler Schoppe singled, scoring one run, Christian Willis singled, scoring two runs, Angel Rodriguez drew a walk, scoring one run, and Zach Braig doubled, scoring two runs.
Otley Makosky earned the win for the Dukes . The pitcher gave up eight hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Offensively the Dukes collected 18 hits in the game. Braig led all with five hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Malachi Woods, Rodriguez, and Shover each collected multiple hits for RCSJ-Cumberland. Chase Montgomery led RCSJ-Cumberland two walks. Zach Braig stole three bases as RCSJ-Cumberland ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
