Baseball Recap: Sweep Delco, Drop heartbreaker to Delaware Tech
VINELAND - With a roster of over 32 freshman, the Dukes Baseball Program came into the season prepared to experience extreme highs and lowly lows throughout the 2025 season. In their second conference series of the season, the Dukes experienced those highs and they swept the Delaware County with three dominant wins. Austin Wokock, Joey Kurtz, and Ryan Beebe all earned the wins on the mound for the Dukes with Kurtz having the highlight start with 10 Ks and allowing just one hit in 6 innings. Tyler Bunting, David Rodriguez, and Kory Jenkins highlighted the first two games in the series with dynamic games. Rodriguez handled Phantoms pitchers with ease going a combined 6 for 8 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs. The Dukes outscored the Phantoms 38-6 in the 3 game series.
The Dukes then traveled to Delaware Tech for a single matchup on Tuesday, March 18. Cumberland jumped out to a 5-1 lead highlighted by back to back home runs by Tyler Bunting and David Rodriguez. Delaware Tech struck back in a big way with a 5-run 6th inning as the big innings continue to plague the Dukes. Brinden Floyd delievered in a loud way as he cracked a 2-run go ahead home run in the top of the 7th which was then followed by a Tyler Bunting RBI single in the top of the 8th to give the Dukes a 8-6 lead. Unfortunately the youth of the Dukes showed in the bottom of the 9th as a pair of walks and an error gave way to 3 runs for Delaware Tech to hand the Dukes a heartbreaking 9-8 loss.
Dukes are back in action Friday as they host Salem CC for a conference series. First pitch scheduled for 3 PM.
