VINELAND - The RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes Mens Soccer team got off to a hot start in their season opening match against the RCSJ-Gloucester Roadrunners played at Rowan University. The Dukes utilized an aggressive press that resulted in a crucial giveaway leading to a Donato Diaz goal in the early parts of the first half. The Roadrunners, however, were able to settle in and take the lead highlighted by a goal with just a second left in the first half. The Dukes would trail 4-1 going into the final third of the second half before a torrid comeback looked to be in store. Cumberland dominated play resulting in an executed penalty kick by Rene Barragan to make the score 4-2. With less than 5 minutes to play, a near own goal by the Roadrunners looked to bring the Dukes within one, but the ball did not fully cross the goal line per the linesman. The loss drops the Dukes to 0-1 with their next match scheduled for 8.28 at Union College of NJ.
